Regional Parks & Trails Master Plan – Review and Update Project
The CVRD has launched a project to review and update the 2007 Regional Parks & Trails Master Plan. There have been many successes over the years towards the plan’s vision for the regional parks & trails system. However, much has changed since 2007, and the CVRD is undertaking an update of the plan to better align with the CVRD Corporate Strategic Plan (2023-2026)’s objectives, inclusive of reconciliation and ecosystem protection, and in light of pressing issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and watershed health, and of growing trends such as increasing demand for nature-based recreation.
Informed by the input received through the engagement process, the updated plan will provide a renewed vision, principles, goals, and priority actions for the CVRD’s regional parks and trails program, inclusive of an updated strategy for regional parkland acquisition. The updated plan will provide direction for the CVRD’s Regional Parks and Trails Program for the next 10-15 years.
To learn more about the update project and opportunities to participate in engagement, please visit the project webpage: https://www.planyourcowichan.ca/regional-parks-trails-master-plan.
The CVRD is engaging with First Nations, other jurisdictions, other interested parties, and the general public for input into this project. The CVRD Board has also appointed a citizen advisory group – the Regional Parks & Trails Master Plan Advisory Group – which is advising the CVRD Board, staff and consultants throughout the planning process. For further information on the Advisory Group, please review the Regional Parks and Trails Master Plan Advisory Group Terms of Reference.
