Hey Cowichan!
With curbside recycling and organics collection now in full swing, there’s not much left that should go in your black garbage tote. But here’s what is accepted:
✅ Accepted in the Garbage Tote:
• Pet waste and litter
• Diapers and personal hygiene products
• Hard plastics (e.g. toys, toothbrushes, storage bins)
• Broken glass and ceramics (e.g. dishware, glassware)
• Items that are broken, unrepairable, or not suitable for donation
• Compostable/biodegradable plastics (these don’t belong in the compost!)
🚫 Not Permitted – Take These to a Recycling Centre:
• Metal
• Batteries
• Small appliances & electronics
• Propane canisters
• Light bulbs
🔌 Many of these are hazardous and can cause fires or injuries if placed in the garbage.
